The DNC rejected help from the FBI and DHS following alleged Russian hacks into its cyber system in 2016, according to former Obama DHS chief Jeh Johnson.
Trey Gowdy asked, “If they had turned the server over to either you or Director Comey, maybe we would have known more and maybe there would have been more for you to report. So I guess what I’m asking you is, why would the victim of a crime not turn over a server to the Intelligence community or to law enforcement?”
But Jeh Johnson conceded that there were no known altering of ballots and that the DNC refused to let the FBI or DHS have contact with their supposedly ‘hacked’ servers.
“To my current knowledge, the Russian government did not through any cyber intrusion alter ballots, ballot counts or reporting of election results,” Johnson said during his opening statement before the House Intelligence Committee.
“Sometime in 2016, I became aware of a hack into systems of the Democratic National Committee,” Johnson said. “… I pressed my staff to know whether DHS was sufficiently proactive, and on the scene helping the DNC identify the intruders and patch vulnerabilities. The answer, to the best of my recollection, was not reassuring: the FBI and the DNC had been in contact with each other months before about the intrusion, and the DNC did not feel it needed DHS’s assistance at that time.”
If the DNC was actually hacked then why did they refuse to let any law enforcement examine their servers? It’s very possible that the DNC emails that came out were actually leaks and not hacks. The DNC could never allow law enforcement to examine their servers and realize that the entire ‘Russian hacking’ narrative was made up..
